Sturgis, SD - Meade County has substantially reduced staff overtime costs by approximately $366,000 over three years. "I'm proud we've achieved such a reduction in our overtime. It's the result of the commissions' action in setting realistic goals, and department heads working out how to achieve the goals,” said Commissioner Aker.

The county experienced a $154,000 savings in FY 2014 vs FY 2010 when overtime expenditures reached an annual high of $293,513. "We've saved this money on overtime without any reductions in our work quality. Some of the county departments will always need to use overtime to respond to unpredictable events, but too much overtime can diminish work quality and safety,” said Commissioner Rausch.

Commissioner Niederwerder added, “It's all about saving taxpayer dollars.  I know it isn't always easy, but I really appreciate how the department heads have bought into this philosophy.”
