Fires start easily from all caused and , immediately after ignition, spread rapidly and increase quickly in intensity. Spot fires are a constant danger. Fires burning in light fuels may quickly develop high intensity characteristics such as long-distance spotting and fire whirlwinds when they burn into heavier fuels.

Meade County Offices Closed on October 8, 2012
In observance of Columbus Day/Native American Day, the Meade County office buildings will be closed on Monday, October 8, 2012. We will open for business on Tuesday, October 9, 2012, at 8:00 a.m.
SDACC Annual Convention
The Meade County commissioners will be attending the South Dakota Association of County Commissioners (SDACC) Annual Convention in Sioux Falls on September 16-19, 2012.
Revised Ordinance #20
The following ordinance was recently revised:
Highlights of the changes are listed below:
- 1 1/2 acre lots are permitted in Meade County now, as long as the requirements are met in Section 4.04 (B) Modified High Density Subdivisions. (See page 19 of revised Ordinance #20.)
- An Accessory Apartment: an apartment is fine, either within the home or attached to the principal dwelling with an approved building permit as long as it meets the requirements. (See Section 4.02 Accessory Apartment, page 17-18.)
- A second dwelling may be permitted on a parcel with a primary dwelling as long as it meets certain conditions. (See Section 4.03 Second Permanent Dwelling, page 18 of revised Ordinance #20.)
