1st Half of Property Taxes Due by Close of Business on April 29, 2022

The first half of Meade County real estate and mobile home taxes are due by close of business on April 29th, 2022. Postmark of April 29th, 2022 is accepted. Penalty on the first half begins on May 1st, 2022.

New online portal to pay property taxes: Pay My Property Taxes Online

The site accepts credit or debit cards, PayPal, and “eCheck” using your banking information.

  • Payments made before 6 p.m. MST/MDST are processed on the next business day. Payments made outside of regular “open for business days”, such as weekends and holidays will be posted on the next "open for business day".

  • Payments may take five (5) business days before reflected on your property taxes account, through this web site.

Charges and Fees:

  • Interest and late fees are added to payments that are past due.

  • A fee of $40 will be charged on all returned payments. Additional fees may be charged if a payment is returned after the payment due date. (SDCL 54A-3-422).

  • NOTE: Enter credit card and bank numbers carefully, typos can result in a returned payment and returned payment charges, as well as interest on taxes that could not be posted by deadlines.

  • Gov Tech Services process the on-line tax payments for Meade County taxpayers. Gov Tech Services charge the taxpayer a transaction processing fee for their service: For e-checks, $1.50. For credit or debit cards, 2.65% or minimum charge of $2.95.

  • When using an e-check as payment, you authorize a one-time electronic fund transfer from your account. Funds may be withdrawn from your account the same day we receive your payment. You will not receive a check back from your financial institution.

  • If your taxes are delinquent, you will not be able to pay online. Please call the Treasurer's Office at (605) 347.5871.

  • Payments over $99,999.00 cannot be accepted on-line.

Citizen Requested to Serve on the Meade County Weed and Pest Board

Meade County is accepting applications from individuals who are interested in serving on the Meade County Weed and Pest Board.

  • One (1) Opening 

  • Appointment is for a Three (3) Year Term  

  • Appointment will be effective February 2022

  • Residents of Unit 4 (Sturgis) are eligible to apply

  • Compensation: $100 per meeting plus mileage reimbursement

Purpose:  The Meade County Weed and Pest Board is responsible for the implementation of an integrated management plan for invasive species throughout the County.

Scope of Work:  The duties of the Meade County Weed and Pest Board are to control the spread of invasive species on County Right-of-Ways and to assist private landowners and major stakeholders with proper management techniques and strategies. 

The Weed and Pest Board manages staff/budget (cooperative effort with county commission) to implement the County program and coordinates activities with local / state / federal agencies.

Individuals who want to be considered for an appointment are asked to fill out a Citizen Interest Application (click link) form and submit same.

Public Meeting on Realignment of Elk Creek Road - December 7, 2021 @ 7PM (Piedmont American Legion)

The Meade County Highway Department is planning a realignment project on Elk Creek Road and is reaching out to all landowners adjacent to the proposed project location. If you would like to learn how this project may affect your property, and ensure your voices are heard, please contact the Meade County Highway Department at 605.347.4565.

A public meeting will occur the evening of December 7, 2021, from 7:00-8:00 pm at the Piedmont Valley American Legion, 15565 Sturgis Road, Piedmont South Dakota. For persons with disabilities, please call above number so we can attempt to make appropriate arrangements for you to attend the meeting.

While your attendance is not required, we recommend it as we want to hear your concerns and try to answer your questions. Meade County employees will be present at the meeting to consider your questions and hear your concerns. Please direct any questions to the Meade County Highway Department at 605.347.4565.

One or more County Commissioners may be in attendance. No official action will be taken.
